Library Loot
Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.
My library looting is extremely small. I only have one book. I’ve made a conscience decision to not get a whole bunch of books before I finish the ones I have. I can see that failing in, oh, a day. Heh. I’ve made a list of books I want to get and it’s becoming harder and harder to not want to order them. Anyway, without further ado here is my one solitary book:

This illuminating and highly readable collection of essays explores some of the myths, for example: standards of children’s speech and writing have declined; women talk too much; the ‘purity’ of the English language is under threat; some languages are more attractive to the ear or are harder to learn than others; the media has a detrimental affect on language. These widely held views are questioned and shown to be based on inadequate or false information, or simply, not to be true. Other essays explore spelling problems, attitudes to accents, controversies over changes in language, and the belief that some languages have no grammar.
It sounds fascinating doesn’t it. The whole debate over whether the English language is being destroyed and eroded has been raging for hundreds of years. It doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. Of course, what these ‘purists’ forget is that languages change, they aren’t stagnant.
The belief that some languages have no grammar is just downright weird; they wouldn’t be a language if they didn’t have grammar. Anyway, I’m looking forward to starting the book.

What an interesting book! lol @ your resolution Sometimes I’m better about only getting a few books out at a time, but lately I’ve been reckless about putting books on hold. I find the big stack of library books so comforting!
Yeah. there is something about walking into a library and coming out with piles of books, doing some form of book-juggling so you don’t drop them.
That really does sound like a fascinating book. There was a time when I read books like that but I’m older now and just coasting along on fiction. You left a library with only one book? I admire your restraint. Enjoy your loot, I look forward to your thoughts on the book. My LL post is up.
Good luck with your decision to only borrow a lot of books. I can tell you I would fail in a very short time if that was the decision that I made!

Ha ha. I’m such a geek, whenever I see the word Freudian slip my mind changes it to parapraxis. Psychoanalytic nerd in the house.

Wow, one book is so impressive! I could never have that much willpower, even though I might want to… It looks like a good one, hope you enjoy it. =)
